It’s Peony Season!
In Australia, peonies are only available for a brief 4–6 week period, typically from late October to early December, though this can shift depending on the weather. These blooms need a strong winter chill to form their buds, which is why they grow best in select regions. The shift from crisp winter mornings to warm, bright spring days in Victoria creates an ideal environment for peonies to thrive.

To celebrate the season, Daily Blooms set out to share a little joy with Melbourne. Our flower cart, overflowing with vibrant peonies, became a little haven of colour and happiness in the heart of the CBD. We brought along 500 single stemmed peonies, and with every spin of our prize wheel, lucky visitors had the chance to take one home, a small gesture to brighten someone’s day and spread the love for these iconic blooms. The wheel also offered Daily Blooms tote bags, T-shirts and stickers, adding to the fun. Visitors could scan a QR code for an extra chance to win a peony bouquet valued at $250, with the winner to be announced in the coming days.
Throughout the day, we watched people pause in the middle of their busy routines, snapping photos, sharing stories about their favourite blooms, and taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of peony season. There’s something about these flowers that brings people together; their ruffled petals and short lived season create a sense of wonder that’s hard to resist. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do: to make it easy for people to experience the joy that flowers spark. It was heartwarming to see the Melbourne community connect strangers chatting, friends swapping stems, and everyone carried by a shared love for these crowd favourite blooms.
For everyone lucky enough to take a peony home, a little attention and care can go a long way in helping these blooms reach their full beauty and longevity.
1. Give stems a fresh, angled trim and place them in cool, clean water.
2. Refresh the water every two days and recut the stems to help them stay hydrated.
3. Keep your peonies away from direct sunlight/heat to prolong their vase life.
4. Gently rinse the blooms before bringing them inside to brush away any ants.
5. If you’d like to slow their opening for a special moment, store the buds in the fridge until you’re ready to display them.
Peony season may be brief, but its beauty and charm leave a lasting impression. Whether at a bustling flower cart in the city or in a quiet corner of your home, these blooms are a simple way to pause, celebrate the moment, and bring a little joy into everyday life. If you haven’t had the chance to enjoy peonies this season, now’s the perfect time to bring a stem home and experience the magic for yourself.
