Meet Tessa – a creative soul, inspired by the natural world. We have been lucky enough to work with Tessa on some stunning content projects. Who better for a florist to partner with, than a fellow flower-lover, ocean-swimmer, bare-foot beauty?
We wanted to share Tessa's work with you, because it truly inspires us. Her use of simple shapes and organic material, makes us want to pick up a pencil and let our hands run free! And we're pretty sure you'll feel the same.
When did you first realise you loved being creative?
Since I was little, I’ve always had a creative eye and been tuned in to the colours, patterns, and designs created by nature and the world around me. I think it’s something that’s always been a part of my life, and I’ve felt this connection for as long as I can remember.
What did your journey (professional or personal) look like to get to where you are today in your creative practice?
I started sharing my creative work in 2020 on Instagram, showcasing any project I was working on, from art to ceramics. It wasn’t until 2022 that I transitioned my art page into a design studio. Since launching Lasola Studio, it has been a constant flow of growth. I learn new things every day—about the creative process, balancing freelance work with life, managing my own finances, creating systems for work to flow, and so much more. I think that’s my favourite thing about running a creative business: you’re always busy, which means your creative practice and skills are constantly developing.
What would your dream day look like?
Ahh, life is so full of amazing experiences! It feels impossible to fit everything I love into one day. But if I had to describe my dream day, it would be waking up somewhere quiet, hidden in nature, with a body of water nearby, sunshine on my skin, and in the company of the people I love.
What do you love most about living in Perth?
The abundance of quiet places. You can always find a spot in nature—whether it's a beach or a hike—where there’s no one else around. I think the slower-paced lifestyle that comes with living in a coastal, isolated town is what keeps me coming back after all my travels. There’s something magical about being alone as a creative; it’s where the best ideas start to grow.
What is your favourite piece of advice you’ve ever heard?
“You are bound by nothing.” Robin Williams says it in the film Good Will Hunting, and I always find myself coming back to it. We often create our own self-imposed restrictions, coming from a place of fear or doubt, or external expectations are placed on us. I find it empowering and a gentle reminder that everything is temporary, and at the core, we are free to pursue whatever it is we want from life.
What are your favourite flowers to have in your home?
I adore orange tulips and arum lilies. There’s something about the form of tulips and lilies that feels so elegant and timeless to me.
Have you got any creative goals for 2025?
So many!!! A constant flow of ideas. It gets hard to know which ones to execute! This year, I’m focusing on having more time to create the things I wish existed in the world—think textiles, garments, accessories. It’s all a work in progress right now, but I’m working very hard to bring it all to life in the tangible world.
